Can you believe that we are only half way through July? I would bet that for most of us, this is the wildest year of our life. Each week has been like the false ending of a Billy Mays infomercial, where he would interrupt his spiel with a loud "But Wait, There's More!"
I find myself wishing we could just wake up and welcome in 2021, hoping that maybe we can get back to something like normal? But in all honesty i am not optimistic that next year will be any better.
Old Long Since
Auld Lang Syne is a Scots-language poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song. In the English-speaking world, its traditional use being to bid farewell to the old year at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve. It is also sung at funerals, graduations, and as a farewell or ending to other occasions.
The poem's Scots title may be translated into standard English as "old long since" or, less literally, long long ago,
Remembering A Legacy
Although this song opens by asking about forgetting old acquaintances, its clear through the history that this song has been used to honor those that have been lost, with many assuming it to be a rhetorical question.
Regardless of how someone passed or what they did in their life, we should remember them for the fond memories they left us with. Learning from their life and striving to make a better world for those who are to come next. This is something that I would hope we could all cling to in the uncertain times we are facing in 2020, that regardless of what happened in the past we are all human and need to strive to make the future merry and bright for all who live on this earth.
